Mexican boat donation

Our Choate 40 is in Puerto Chiapas, Mexico. It's in pretty rough shape with a broken engine and other problems. Anyone know of the ramifications, ethical and otherwise, of just walking away? Can it be donated to a charitable organization or to an individual? All thoughts welcome! Thanks

Re: Mexican boat donation

have you spoken with marina officials about donation??
abandonment is a long drawn out money losing process taking about 10 yrs.
if you know the salvor there, discuss with that individual as well. marina officials should know name of the licensed salvor in their area.
sad to hear of your boat issues/

here in mazatlan there is a buncha evidence on abandonment... ten boats abandoned .. marina must wait the 10 yrs mandatory in disposal. some have only been 7 yrs, some 8... some even less years ... i only know htese issues as my como hermano here is THE local licensed salvor. he "learned me" a lot.
salvor is best solution. make sure boat is legally handed over so no wait is involved. the salvor can then decide to either repair and use or dismantle and sell all items individually and make a reef of the hull.

werent you in la cruz in 2012?? or was that a different vortex??? if this is you, your boat was a sweet one.
