Newport Boat Show

How impossible is it to find a decent anchorage in Newport, RI during the boat show? Should I just plan on getting there by land?

Re: Newport Boat Show

It is not hard to find a place to anchor during the show, it just depends on how far you can travel in your dinghy. We have anchored twice on Back Creek during the show, and once way back on Spa Creek, but we got there early and it definitely filled up. Lots of room on the Severn River though.

Thanks. I've since checked the Dockwa app for slips and/or moorings. There seems to be places to tie up, which is surprising in itself, and the rates also look fairly reasonable considering the size of the event. I haven't tried to book anything yet, but I'm still thinking about it. With over a week to go, Windy app isn't very promising as I'd be sailing from Nantucket, but I'll keep checking and see how things shape up as we get closer.

Thanks again!

Spa Creek Md, Back Creek MD, and Severn River Md are a very, very long dinghy ride to Newport Rhode Island.

Re: Newport Boat Show

As I am usually looking to stay away from crowds, can suggest.
3rd Beach anchorage on the Sakonnet River. Long walk (3 miles?) into Newport.
Jamestown, if ferry running.
Also anchorage up by the bridge, forget name, check on Active Captain.
