Contagious condition to feet, remind me to check the medical condition of every one who comes on board,
I have booked an appointment to have my feet checked as all houses an a large number of shops in Asia require you to remove your shoes, oh wow is me what will I have caught

Basil

People know if they have a foot condition. In Asia they remove their Shoes, not their socks which they will wear if they have a fungal or other foot condition.

As you have an obvious aversion to accepting other peoples opinions which are diverse to your own, and a person of strong opinions and not shy about telling others how it should be, I think our exchange is done.

As you can see, the thread drifts and then is sucked away by the current.

Glad you could get some info that helps.....

Good shoes are essential

Re: Packing for a day sail

Heard a call on the VHF a few months ago, wanted an ambulance to meet them at the dock. Partially severed toe. Hmmm, think I'll stick to my boat shoes, which I keep on the boat btw, so they stay clean.

After crusing for a number of years ,( North an South Pacific) it is consider the height of bad manners to ever wear any type of foot wear on a crusing boat full stop.except sea boots but never ever off the boat.
I can not recall any one saying "leave your shoes on."
You are going sailing not trying to make a fashion statement, most cruisers can be recognised by the wrinkles in their clothes which come out on special occasions.
As for damage to the feet, it's expected
I would never think of wearing shoes on board even when in refit..
I realise that this will cause major concern for those who go out for the day once around the bout an back to the club house to tell stories, but shoes cause deck damage, carry dirt on board an if carried on board an are leather will go nice an green with mold..
This might rank among some of the most ridiculous advice, ever posted on this forum.

Re: Packing for a day sail

Perhaps Basil is the skipper of a suoer-megayacht; many of them don't want guests wearing street shoes on their acres of teak and heirloom rugs. Of course, megayacht pax are kept away from winches and windlasses and pretty much anything more dangerous than a cocktail stirrer. And without shoes, the megayacht guests can't run very far in horror if the Chateaubriand isn't served just so.

Re: Packing for a day sail

I read with amazement the argument for bare feet. 90% of my sailing has been done in Dubarry seaboots, the remainder in boat shoes of one kind or another, and even then I have occasionally stubbed my toe painfully on cleats, deck organisers etc.
IMHO beer has no place on an open dayboat used for training.
