Paper-Thin Material Is 10x Stronger than Steel

A material called graphene
Perhaps an unsinkable hull material?

Although nowhere does it mention how much it costs to manufacture.

New Graphene Material is Paper-Thin and Ten Times Stronger Than Steel | Popular Science
Quote:
Compared to steel, the prepared GP is six times lighter, five to six times lower density, two times harder with 10 times higher tensile strength and 13 times higher bending rigidity.

That’s no incremental improvement on the qualities of steel, but a huge leap forward in terms of overall material strength (plus, like paper, it is flexible). And because it is graphene, it is also imbued with some interesting electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties.

Here it lists its applications:

That might make building a hull a bit of a challenge.

Pretty good for a furling sail, though

Yeah, i noted that. I'm not going to suggest exactly how it would be made other than in combination with a non-flexible material. Even this is going further than I'm comfortable to speculate. It's just a possibility.
