Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

What a horrible shock and I pray that they find the other crew in time !

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/lite/story/539787

I have known Robyn for many years as well as Harry...both very good and competent guys.

This storm Mujigae/ Kabayan surprised many people including myself.

http://www.rappler.com/nation/specia...ayan-am-update

It came out of nothing close to the east coast, picked up speed and caught many people who felt we were going to get a patch of settled weather following 2 big typhoons that had passed far north the previous week.

I can only imagine Robyn and Harry making that same assessment before departing HK, as I would have done.

Monitoring the weather in Subic because of varnish work, I saw the forecasts change dramatically, not knowing Robyn and Harry were out there.

****!

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

This storm track shows only a depression on Oct 1st (the day of their departure).....and how quickly it surprised everyone including many fishermen on the West Coast, who did not suspect bad weather on China Sea side.

I'm not sure why this is in the multihulls forum. The boat was a Beneteau Oceanis 60.

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

That was because Robyn is a yacht broker and sold Lagoons..... The CF APP doesn't show you what section you are in.....perhaps Mods can change.

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

Unfortunately, no positive news locally on the search for the crew.

What started as a weak depression intensified quickly after crossing Philippines into a storm and then up to typhoon level near China with winds up to 95mph.

Last reported position of yacht via sat phone on Oct 2nd was about 210nm out of Hong Kong.

This was the last local posted track of Storm dated Oct 3rd about the same time the Epirb went off at 20:23 UTC Oct 3.

Fingers still crossed that they are out there.

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

It seems that there is a dispute over what flotsam represents in latest update.

This TV Interview with a friend who is coordinating with HK SAR is quite telling about the misinformation coming out of Philippines CG

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

Update from those involved in search.

4 planes out yesterday in good conditions following drift tracks for flotsam and a dismasted yacht adrift.

Visibility was good enough to see the flying fish.

Lots of Philippine fishing boats out there and some disabled in Storm have been rescued.

No confirmed proof that previously reported body and flotsam was from yacht.

Has been one week today that EPIRB went off.

Unfortunately, bad weather is forecast in upcoming days so air search is intensifying.

We are all still hoping that they are adrift somewhere drifting towards Vietnam.

Unfortunately, the weather is now becoming a search issueClick image for larger version
