Propane Fume Detector: Fireboy-Xintex S-2A

Sensor #2 suddenly stopped working(amber light). Anyone had this happen and if so what’s the solution (anything involving the solenoid or simply buy new unit?). Thanks.

Re: Propane Fume Detector: Fireboy-Xintex S-2A

I have replaced the sensor when that occurs and it made everything fully functional again.

Recently, a 5 year old replacement sensor started faulting. I still had the old one [that was faulting 5 years ago] and plugged it in as a test. It worked without fault, and has been working fine for months now.

This makes me wonder if perhaps the faulting was caused by marginal electrical connections in the wiring socket the sensors plug into… [No visible corrosion, but perhaps there is an oxide coating that developed and was removed when the terminal was unplugged and then reconnected- like happens to flashlight batteries that work better after you bang the flashlight a few times…]

I don’t know as I haven’t explored further [its working…]

This has been my experience so far.

FWIW

Cheers, Bill

PS: Based upon this experience, next time a sensor faults, I will try unplugging and replugging it a few times to see if that rectifies the fault. [Not likely because I also always grease electrical fittings to help prevent corrosion…]

We have the same problem but have been unable to source a new sensor, plenty of pics of the little red igloo on ebay etc but zero available for purchase. Now in the process of buying a complete new system. Initially I thought it was corroded terminals on the sensor end of the cable but with a new set of pins on clean copper the orange fault persisted.

Re: Propane Fume Detector: Fireboy-Xintex S-2A

According to the ‘S2-A’ Installation and Operation Manual
https://www.fireboy-xintex.com/wp-co...-2A-Manual.pdf
Quote:
”... Sensor Fault Detection
Should the unit determine that either of the sensors is faulty or disconnected, the corresponding indicator will change to amber and the horn will sound, Check that the sensor is connected and that wiring has not been frayed or cut.
Should this condition persist, the sensor has been damaged
and must be replaced.
Unit Fault Detection
Should an internal failure occur, the unit fault light will display amber and the horn will sound.
Should this occur, return the display to the manufacturer for repair...”
There are no user or field serviceable parts in this product. The S-2A must be returned to the manufacturer for any repair or trouble shooting beyond what is recommended in this manual.

This is an old sensor so plan to replace. However, is there an important reason to get a unit with two sensors rather than one? I located one in the bilge area, but still need to explore to find the second.

What happens when you swap the sensor terminals and try them one at a time
