Re:"Solve This Global Problem."

The recent thread on the climate change debate was closed, but this deserves to be discussed (politely) by both sides. The writer of the thread seems to suggest that it is a global phenomenon that can be solved. But even if we assume that human activity is the main cause, which is arguable since we know major climate change has occurred since the earth was created, does anyone seriously believe that China, India, Russia or developing nations in Africa will agree to the strict changes that are being suggested by some?
Some politicians are suggesting we go back to very primitive living. But I highly doubt they and the jet set will give up their air conditioned mansions, modern conveniences, MEGA YACHTS and private planes.
History and current conditions in Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea and China shows what Socialism and Communism breeds.

Re: "Solve This Global Problem."

Perhaps you should research what some of those 'isms' you casually toss about (and the ones you leave out...) actually mean in the contemporary world, not to mention their roles in putting us in the position we are currently in.

If the top 10% carbon emitters cut their emissions (consumption) to meet that of the rest of the world, global carbon emissions would be cut by 50%.

Either 'they' will do this voluntarily, or nature will do it for 'them'. The problem is for those that 'they' take with them.

For starters have a look at loss of insectivorous biomass worldwide. In case you're unaware of it, without insects, life for higher-order organisms is impossible, and will quickly adjust in both breadth and volume.

Re: "Solve This Global Problem."

Whilst no doubt an important subject, I am sure there are other forums more suitable to discuss GW as a global issue, this is after all a cruising and sailing forum. Thread closed.
