Re: Registration decal on PVC dinghy

Anyone put the registration decal on the motor cowl so it can be clearly seen? I figure a cop would really have to be a stickler to complain that it's not close enough to the number/ bow when it's clearly visible.

I did that for three years, was never asked. Only stopped once that I can remember, actually he didn't even stop us, just came by and pointed at his vest, so we picked ours up and showed him, off he went.
I finally put this years sticker inside on the transom.

Are we really supposed to carry flares in a dinghy too?

Thats a good question !
I have a flare gunkit in the dink. Pfds. Big boat docked. And the warden hangs out at fuel dock on Saturday mornings.🙄( I've seendinks with bow n stern lights too.) No current numbers or reg stickers on .
Hope they arrive soon...

Do states treat dingys and tenders differently? Or do i have a misunderstanding of the nomenclature?

I like that idea!
But an overzealous authority might say that you may be circumventing the registration laws by transferring motor to other craft , not that i would ever think of doing such a thing.
I only have one dingy, but use the dinkmotor as auxiliary on Columbia 28.
OMG two stickers on one boat ?

Re: Registration decal on PVC dinghy

Yeah.. so I put the decal on the motor... Got a ticket for not having the paper registration with me. And got a warning for it being on the motor... Pretty ridiculous to write a citation for that consideringthe initial check was for safety gear and I had all of that and was polite... The officer was hiding in the bushes when I pulled up to the dock. It was the weirdest thing ever. In 20 years on the water I've never gotten a ticket, been stopped plenty of times and they have mostly been pretty laid back.

Oh, and while she was at her truck writing the citation a guy on a jetski pulled away from the dock towing a canoe full of people/children, and neither the guy on the jet ski or the others had a life jacket on..

Sorry for the rant...
