Renaming a yacht?

Hi guys and gals.
There are some dodgy yacht names about. So I was wondering is there a ritual or ceremony out there to rename a yacht.
Cheers
Ian

Re: Renaming a yacht?

Depends how far you want to go with it!

https://www.boatnames.com.au/boat-naming-ceremony/

Our last boat we changed the name to a word for boat in the local Aboriginal language, and in line with the process they (Yolngu people of Arnhem Land) use, in "adopting" white fellas (Balanda) and giving us Yolngu names, I asked a Yolngu woman to choose a new 'adopted' Yolngu name for the boat.

My twisted logic was that this was not changing the name with the attendant risk of upsetting Neptune, but giving it a second 'adopted' name.

Thanks Galumay.

That ritual certainly involves a lot of champagne. Probably drafted by Moet & Chandon.

Re: Renaming a yacht?

My race results went in the toilet after renaming without the ceremony....and it couldn't have anything to do with my lack of tactical skill!

Never considered you would need a ceremony. We just thought of a name we (I) liked

Re: Renaming a yacht?

We renamed our previous Bristol 45.5. Can't imagine why we did not like the name, 'Double Ditto' and wanted to change it. The 'ceremony' was a good excuse for a party. Sailed 40,000 nm with the new name without major incident so it worked.
