Tho technically, I suspect she’s in Port Lincoln.

Only a couple of hours drive away... if you survive the drop-bears, Australian Roads and Outback murderers.

As Wottie said, he did ask, and, frankly, the OP must have been desperate to ask us.

After, aren’t all the REAL sailors over on S.A?

Thanks everyone for your feedback, whether serious or not! Obviously I'm completely delusional, but I have to dream. Maybe one day....

Follow Wotnames recommendations on the boat but set off from Durban and sail non stop the 6000nm to SA.. resupply then nonstop to Caribe, resupply then the 3600nm to Azores and on to S Portugal.
Your mate can fly to the UK from Faro and you can get a train to Bordeaux.
Your biggest problem will be water tankage and if you can stick to rationing..
Presumably you meant "set off from Fremantle". If so, it's not a bad plan!

No.. I meant Darwin.
Figure he's most likely gonna have to buy on E Coast so training sail N then across the top.. from there he can head W and latch onto the circulating wind flow starting with a beam breeze and moving aft of the beam as he goes W.
It is 1000nm shorter as a crow flies from Freemantle but my feeling is Darwins a better jump off after an easier learning curve and scenic(?)sailing..
Who knows why I said Durban.. Yes I do.. Havana Club

Yellowbeard83 if it was not for Corona I would say have a crack at it. Just google Bill Nance as he did a similar voyage you are proposing in a 25 foot Vertue!
Maybe next year if things calm down then you could try.
Cheers

You've negotiated permission to exit Aus from the authorities?

I take it that YB83 is an Australian citizen. And his buddy perhaps has permanent residency in Aus if not an Aus citizen.

My understanding is you'll need four weeks, minimum, to negotiate permission to exit Australia. Some have taken longer.

And without a better reason than 'see our loved ones' you've got Buckley's chance. (for non-Aus members, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willia...y's_Chance).

I point YB83 to:

Re: Sailing Adelaide to France/England in time for Christmas

i assume that you are talking about christmas 2021 ? that is the time scale that you should be looking at for the scenario you outline

the other issue is you say you're an aussie ? are you aware that it is NOT LEGAL for an australian citizen to leave australia at this time ? this is unlikely to change inside the next 6 months

i'm not arguing the merits of such a restriction...but it's there and if you try to leave you will be in a whole world of pain very quickly

cheers,

Well between you and the Havana Club, it is a reasonable plan.

While I would not endorse doing a dodgy exit, it wouldn't be too hard to achieve.

If yes then I would suggest his chance is around -100

Re: Sailing Adelaide to France/England in time for Christmas

Seriously this is a crazy plan, Christmas 2021 might be doable with enough budget for it to be a full time project and pay a yard to do any major work. I would say that you need a minimum of 4 months working the boat up once all work has been done to consider the crew ready. Preparing the boat is going to be a big job as it will be nearly impossible to buy one that is already right and with the right equipment, nobody makes anything off the shelf designed for the job and if you get one that has 'sailed the world and ready to go again' I guarantee that means 'in need of new sails and a full refit'. Timing, Frances Chichester went the other way from England on an eastward circumnavigation with one stop in Sidney and took 226 days so racing non stop the Volvo race has this down to just under 147days at sea in 60ft boats with full crew and shore support. All going via cape horn. Going the other way via south Africa you will be against the wind for at least half the trip. Five people have done it (the 'wrong way') to date as a non stop race, and the record is 220 day and change. This is experienced racing sailors in specially designed boats. If you could do anything approaching 225 days Sidney to UK in a cruising boat with an amateur crew you could probably be looking at a career as a professional racer and both you and the boat will have to be up to beating into strong gales for months on end.
I am not usually a naysayer but if you go ahead with this hold you wake before leaving!
