Re: Sailing to the Med thru Red Sea 2nd quarter 2015

23.03.2014: 0630 UTC: Posn: 13:18N – 042:52E, Red Sea.
Five skiffs with three persons in each approached a chemical tanker underway at high speed. Master raised the alarm, crew mustered, fire pump activated and the on board armed security team took their position. Ladders were noticed in two skiffs as they closed to a distance of 1nm from the tanker. The security team immediately fired one rocket flare towards the skiffs and showed their weapons resulting in the skiffs aborting their approach.

Re: Sailing to the Med thru Red Sea 2nd quarter 2015

get the idea! the pirates are still out there, but being foiled by armed security teams, and the higher speed of vessels involved.

yachts however don't have that luxuary, and are nice easy soft targets for the MANY pirates still out there.

He might...or he might not. The website shows that route but there is nothing definite about plans for the Odyssey route through Red Sea. That decision will be made later. They likely will go SA route; but, again, no decision has been made yet. We spoke with Jimmy about this ourselves.

Consult Pilot Charts. I know part of the year it is an upwind bash. Boats lose forestays, etc. You won't be comfortable in a Bene.
