To a degree, but where does that end? The SEC investigated Bernie Madoff 3 times and found nothing wrong. If we are choosing as a society to stop scam artists, let's start at that level, and worry about petty scams only after we straighten out the billionaire scammers...

It might suprise to people but the Migerian Prince scam is still number one on most internet fraud forces. I find it hard to believe that anyone would believe in it and further that anyone hasn't heard of it but it continues to defraud a lot of people.

I try to sound wealthy, deaf and senile at the same time ( easy, actually, at least the last two).
Comments like "You'll have to speak up young man, did you say you were from the electiricity authority?" can keep them going a long time and by the end of it they are yelling their hearts out. To end it, "Computer? Did you say computer? I'm too old for that young man!"

I used to let my 10 yr old son answer all the scammer calls. They'd ask for me and not pronounce the name correctly and I'd say hold on and give my kid the phone. He loves to talk to them. He will chat and listen as long as they want. Many ended with, "oh, I don't have credit card. I'm 10." Click...
Sems if you waste their time, word gets around and the number of calls drop. Maybe all the scammers are related
