Re: Sinking of Forever catamaran

The article doesn't say what the anchor scope was. With a 2-3x oversized anchor, would it still drag if the scope was set properly? Just curious..

Any lose of a boat is sad. All the rhetoric is pure speculation.

Could be because its a ditch bag not a life raft... when you use it again you put fresh water, energy bars whatever back in with personal effects..
At least thats what I would do...

Good friends owned her as "Zero to Cruising". This is a sad tale.

Re: Sinking of Forever catamaran

Seems like a pain in the ass to have to resupply the grab bag for every passage - several litres of water per person and a kg or so of rations per person, for ocean passages at least. Only pulling out and replacing the documents between passages means you don’t forget to replace the emergency stuff. Or find out that the last week of parties are up all the packaged rations you were going to put into the grab bag.

How many buy emergency water packets and official emergency rations for their grab bag? They’re good for 5 years at a time and convenient, but relatively expensive. And the rations full fill the first rule of emergency rations - only edible when you’re really, truly, desperately hungry.

Actually protien and energy bars plus homemade trail mix.. light and enough to keep one going.. Waters the bulky item.. and much more important than food thats why I have a manual watermaker.

Yeah, and this is the first thing you do when arriving at an anchorage?

I think its so sad that when folks fall on hard times the first instinct of so many people is to just start flinging crap at them. Maybe ponder that for half a second that the next time you fall on hard times.

Everybody makes mistakes, none of us are perfectly equipped to survive our experiences with 100% certainty, and theres always someone out there better prepared and smarter than you who could make similar statements about yourself and your own lack of preparedness.

Its important for us to learn from mistakes and strive for preparedness so we don't all turn into idiots, but we can do that without victim shaming.

As for hurling crap..
Seems thats down to you with your comment.

You know, just so it's not lost in the noise, I'm pretty sure my 3rd paragraph up there is the smartest thing i've ever said.

You mean the part about learning from your mistakes. Boaty has probably made more mistakes than all of us combined. Probably learned more than all of us combined as well. I feel confident in sailing my boat where ever I want to go. But if I needed a delivery capt Boaty would be my first choice..
