Okay to be honest, I thought the same thing... but that's all relative isn't it?
It would take about 8seconds of me driving on a freeway or 4seconds of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic to give it all up for that view.

On the other side of the coin... I can actually feel myself get territorial if even a second boat enters the bay we've been watching uninterrupted sunsets from for the last few days/weeks.

Oh how soon we forget. It's ALL relative, and any sunset over the ocean is far better than not seeing one because you're still sitting at work or commuting home.

Very true. As I've been saying more and more these days; "Remember, it can always get worse."

Yes, Mike, you've not been able to spend the season aboard, and now the land will be locked in winter, soon. It's tough. Maybe 2021 will see you and your good lady back aboard.

the current truth is ................

It is real hard to make any cruising plan at all.

Well, one can still make a plan - circumstances don’t affect that at all.

Following the plan, that’s something completely different.

We started developing a rough ten year plan a few years ago, getting ready to leave next year. So far the first 6 months are intact, but it gets a bit murky after that.

Well, we picked the overall goal first, then broke it down into seasons and expected time at major destinations. Add in a few over-winters to have more time at their respective destinations and it wasn’t hard to get to 10 years. We’re not planning to rush!!

I think it was Mike Tyson who said sumpin' like "plans are ok until someone punches you in the face...", and that's the truth about cruising. Plans are ok, but there are SO many variables, hindrances, alterations, storms, engine breakdowns, new places that are way better than expected, and so on, that planning more than one season ahead (if that) is kinda futile IME.

When we started out we had plans out the gazoo, go there, see this... and very seldom did they get acted out. We had great times, just not the ones we expected most of the time... and that was just fine with us!

So, in our latter years our plans became quite detailed: try to be where the weather suits our clothes. OF course, Covid killed even that degree of planning for us, 'cause the climate in winter Tasmania sure didn't suit our clothes, our life style or our preferences. But we made it through, and cruising continues as spring burgeons and the temperatures rise. Life is mostly good.

So, plan ahead and see what happens. You'll probably like it!

Yup, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

Covid Punched us all in the...groin ...mouth...yeah, we'll stick with mouth...

But our plan actually held up pretty well - some accommodations and adaptations, but we're still looking at the same general plan through 2022.

I had a great time. There were pot luck dinners at the tiki on weekends, organized baseball, bocce, pickleball games. Events at the amphitheatre.

And even Texas hold-em in the cruisers lounge organized by the OP himself......
