Okay, I guess I should get in on this...

Remember punched paper tape? First program I ever wrote was immortalized on that stuff, and I'm pretty sure I still have it around somewhere. Though I did throw away the boxes of punched cards a long time ago.

First got onto usenet in about 1984, if I recall correctly. That would, of course, have been on an old IBM 3270 terminal. Unless I was doing it on the weekend, and then it would have been on the Silent 700, with built-in 300 baud modem, that the company gave me in case I needed to work from home.

Yes, I still remember when the first "high-speed" 1200 baud modems came out. Man, we were flyin'.

On the other hand, in my job as a DBA, I still use the sudo command almost every day, in a terminal-emulation window that is based off of that old IBM 3270!

Re: Sock Puppets

My first code was written using a blanket over a fire. Wifi ready internet ready if you were on a nearby mountain. To reboot you had to rub two sticks together.

Re: Sock Puppets

I am a mercenary sock puppet. I will extol the virtues of any of you for a fee. I will accept no cash, only boat parts. For instance, I could really use a Harken big boat traveler car and track, a waterproof video camera, and a wind instrument. Used parts are fine, you will get the same excellent service.

Re: Sock Puppets

Shari Lewis and Lambchops... you felt no threat from Lambchops, he was a friendly sock puppet.
But Shari Lewis said it is disheartening when this hunk of a man comes up to her and said ""Lambchops" was my favorite puppet when I was a young boy...."
