Solar gen

Any comments on the Jackery products? Looks interesting. Know some folks on sailboat in Puerto Rico using it. They seem to like it for certain applications!

Re: Solar gen

We are thinking of getting one this season after we do more research.

Re: Solar gen

Isn't it just a lithium battery with a built in inverter?

Re: Solar gen

My understanding is that they are an integrated battery, charge, inverter and monitor.

Pros:
Plug-n-play system.
Compact.

Cons:
You pay more for a given energy capacity.
Rigid form factor, space needs to accommodate an interference number of units.
You can’t get an extra 50% of batteries, you have to get a while extra unit including charger and inverter which may be superfluous.
As an integrated system if one part fails the whole system may go down.
Off grid it will not be a system you can troubleshoot yourself.

I haven’t looked into inputs and outputs so don’t know how integrating solar would work nor how to get multiple units to work together for a heavy inverter load.

I believe it would take multiple units for any significant load like an electric Galley.

Electric propulsion, not a chance.

For regular house loads while coastal cruising where you have an ICE prime mover and a propane stove and you have no interest in forgiving it out yourself it would be fine.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground no one would think to try and refloat it.

All this and on top: The name Solar Generator is just a marketing gimic, as it I itself creates no energy itself.
It's the attached solar array which does that.
