Re: Suggestions on moving to area with good sailing (not liveaboard)

Oriental NC is the sailing capitol of NC. Lovely little village with access to the Pamlico sound and ocean. Lots of sailors and good people.

Re: Suggestions on moving to area with good sailing (not liveaboard)

Norfolk, VA and the entire Hampton Roads area would be a good spot for anyone looking to sail plus there are tons of job opportunities

They race every Wednesday and Thursday during the season in the Norfolk/Va Beach Areas

The Hampton Yacht Clubs has big boat and small boat (one design) racing

Last year I happened to be sailing 25 miles or so North of here and ended up in the middle of the boats racing the Annapolis-Bermuda Race. It was quite exciting to see. I first spotted them at about 0800 as I was sailing away from a pretty rough anchorage. They were tacking down the bay sailing into the Southerly wind. I followed the tracker when I got home a couple days later since I had sailed near a couple of the leaders as the came down the bay toward me. The next Annapolis-Bermuda Race is scheduled for the Spring of 2020

Re: Suggestions on moving to area with good sailing (not liveaboard)

I sail the the long island sound, newport area. One great thing about this area is the many places to sail to..... not just go out for a sail. We can go a few hours and be in a new place, drop anchor, visit a new town. We can do this for weeks/ months on end leading up to as far as beautiful Maine and still not see it all.
I suggest you visit and maybe even charter a boat in the different locations.
Btw i go in the water in April and get pulled late October..... cold in spring but wouldn’t trade it for anything

Good luck!

Greg
