We renamed our boat when we bought it six years ago. We used a renaming ritual similar to the one you describe, and we invited everyone on the dock to attend the ceremony. A good time was had by all!

I agree. My boat got struck by lightning 2 weeks after I renamed it.
But I still agree. The lightning was just "the odds". 10 years have passed since then and it hasn't been struck again (yet).

Re: To Rename Or Not Rename A Boat?

Change the name , But why take the chance to do the ceremony and have a drinking party !? To many bad things can happen to your boat. Why take the chance? Or if you have lots of money you can afoard to chance it . !
In my mind de masting its about the danger not the money ! Be Safe , Look up on the internet print out the ceremoney that suits you . Get your friends, Throw some booze over the side north, south, east, west and Lots for the crowd. Its a fun memoriable time.
