Towing a tube on A cleet

I have a 1997 Bayliner Capri 2350. I wanted to know if I can use a cleet in the middle of the stern to tow a tube. See attached photo

Take a look at the other side and see if there is a substantial backing plate ... most likely a couple of 1/4" nuts and washers .... not good.

I think this is not entirely possible. Need to look in life. Contact a specialist for recommendations.

No.

Check with a local dealer to confirm that you could tow with a bridle attached to your two aft mooring cleats, or have something installed specifically for towing.

Aww, sure, go ahead! After all, the worst that could happen is that as you load up the tow rope the cleat pulls out of the deck and the stored energy in the stretched rope snaps it back, striking the towee in the head killing them, and their heirs sue you for gross negligence leading to death, you have a huge judgement laid on you and when you can't pay, you go to jail.

What's the worry?

Dripping with a bit too much condescension - Especially for a first time poster.

Jim, here I was thinking sarcasm was frowned upon.

Re: Towing a tube on A cleet

Why not just purchase a $15 tube tow harness designed for that purpose? The harness floats, is shaped like a "Y" and attaches to the "U" bolts on both sides of the outdrive.

Aw, come on Jim. That's a kinda vague response... you are usually more decisive in your advice!

And I agree! My little parable above wasn't really sarcastic, but rather an exposition of what might well happen.
