If you download the report about the construction problem of a new HR Mia Maria (https://docplayer.net/47884833-Hr-37...d-element.html) you can read good arguments why boats from factories who are producing a few ships are not always reliable. Could the opposite also be possible?

Let's try to give the OP a good answer to his question.
There must be some reason why Phil (boatman61) doesn't want this job. Maybe he doesn't trust a Bavaria to make that trip? Delivering boats is what he does for a living and he's in the general area - maybe he just hit the lotto

On second thought, it may have nothing to do with Bavaria. According to his website, he charges a flat rate by the mile so the possible vast disparency in the time frame may be what's putting him off. If the weather causes him to take three months to get it there, he might make more money flipping burgers in Portugal and stay dry.

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

Many years ago I did business with a charter company in Croatia. They had many Bavaria's. I think it was Sail Croatia. Met the owner at one of their several bases. Rovynn I believe. Pardon my spelling. Very professional. Great sailors. Try contacting them. I think his name was Ivana Juric. Don't quote me on that. Spoke perfect English.

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

No issues with Bavaria - have gotten some skippers pm me so I’m very satisfied.

All the boats are in glass fiber, using the same quality rigging, mast etc + CE certified at the A ranking so I’m not the slightest worried about their quality. Many people sail them here in Skandinavia because they are cheap and you get a lot for your money. I see Bavaria much more than any other boat I can think off here.

That being said, I’m also considering the Jeanneau 54 ds so feel free to chip in your thoughts about that boat as well.

I don’t know Jeanneau so well, but I see a lot of them around as well. I know the 54 ds has a Kevlar reinforce hull and other nice things..

Kind regards,
Peter

Nothing to do with the boat, everything to do with Covid..
I have told Peter he could likely get a UK based Skipper much quicker due to the success of the Vaccine Rollout there..
Here I will be lucky to get the first shot before June and I imagine the OP would like the boat there by summer to enjoy it... pure consideration not Bavaria bias..
Mind... if he can't get anyone else and is prepared to wait for the Brussels Balls Up to resolve itself and my travel ability I would be happy to take it on.

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

Thanks for supporting this boatman

Its unlikely that I’ll aim to get it here before the summer and since we already have a boat it’s not urgent although it would be nice.

More realistically we will probably be looking at transporting it ourselves to e.g Portugal if I can manage to squeeze in some vacation this summer and enjoy the Mediterranean with the kids and grannies onboard

Anyways - please feel free to send me a ballpark offer boatman. I’ll make sure the boat is in top shape and has radar, ais and all the needed equipment to make the passage comfortable.

Have receive some realistic offers and some crazy lunatic ones..

Kind regards,
Peter

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

I would look at the cost of having it delivered by truck. Not a clue what it would be.
Second, rather than sailing all the way round Europe,
Check out the rivers and see if draft restrictions will allow boat to transit through Europe.
Which in itself might be very enjoyable.

I have a friend who is planning to take a boat from the Baltic to Croatia. Why because he is Croatian. It’s a bit smaller.
By the time you figure out the costs involved, you may find, it’s much easier to and more cost effective to by a boat closer to home.

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

It’s too big for a truck - will need special marking and it becomes very expensive

Rivers are not an option as it would require truck during some parts

Boats are build for sailing and I see no problem transporting it by sea

Have received some good quotes, and with a bit of creativity and planning it will be magnitudes cheaper than buying a local boat + the boats I'm looking at are not for sale anywhere in north Europe.

Br, Peter

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

10 seconds on google, Rhine Danube canal, max boat length 170m width 11.45 m depth
2 .7. Are there other routes, yes. are they more restricted probably.
One might also ask Bavaria how they get 5O ft boats to Croatia.

Re: Transporting sailboat from Croatia to Norway

Ok - so maybe I got all this wrong. I had the impression that between France and Germany the boats had to be transported over land, but that is probably not correct.

Rhine would be a significantly shorter trip and an opportunity to change all the stays on the mast as well.

Not looking at Bavaria 50 anymore (nothing to do with Bavaria at all), the boat will be a Jeanneau 54DS (because of the desk salon lighting and space + more space for general storage than Bavaria 50 ) and I’m having the initial chats with the vendors

Kind Regards,
Peter

The flow of river danube is up to 4 knots 6-40=2 knots at average workload.
Belgrade - Regensburg 1015 km 550 NM / 2 = 275 hrs = 11 days.
