Travel to Canada

Good morning.

Since the border are re-opened since last weekend, I am wondering if anybody has been sailing from the US to Canada.

Any problem or any specific requirements except for the vaccine?

Wondering as well if all the usual locations of ports of entry are opened or it is limited.

Planning to sail to Canada by end of the month or early September.

Thx you.

Absolutely no worries, Maijipo.

Overall, that thread has been more general in nature since its start, but now, with the border opened on Monday, the discussion has shifted to people's border experiences and any news people can provide about the restrictions, etc.

Maybe you'll get more specific info on this thread, though, since you've focused the topic a bit.

Good luck!
Hope we treat you well in September

Re: Travel to Canada

FWIW we transited BC from Alaska to California in July before the border opened. Entered Prince Rupert on July 12 with all the normal formalities at all the normal places. Only difference was we were all wearing masks and they gave us a little handout with more masks. And a short talking to about violating the rules and the penalties attached to violating the rules.

For us, as "essential travel" they urged us to make steady progress south and indicated that there would be tracking by AIS and other means. Our own boat was quarantine and we were not allowed to go ashore, but we had no daily reporting requirements or anything else.

We stopped every night, enjoyed ourselves, stayed pretty much on the direct route. Got supplies (fuel and propane) in Shearwater, fuel in Port Hardy. Shearwater/Bella Bella was closed to outsiders, may still be and so may other First Nations communities, check with any you plan to visit, but fuel dock was open to transients and they could arrange other supplies if you called first.

Never had any issues with anyone, all quite pleasant. Got buzzed twice by the CG, once in a cutter/ship, the other time in a RIB. In both cases they waved and yelled a greeting and that was it. No radio hail, no drama. Maybe that's because we were playing by the rules, but that was our experience a few weeks ago.
