Troubleshooting a wind gauge

My wind gauge is showing direction but not speed. According to the manual it should show a error code if there’s no input, but it’s not. Is there a way to test the wire from the mast head unit for signal with a multi-meter? I’d like to determine if it’s the computer or the sending unit before I start throwing parts at it.

Re: Troubleshooting a wind gauge

I’d check to see it it’s actually spinning, first.....
After that, it’s a hall sensor - sends pulses. VERY low voltage pulses - check across signal and ground with a millivolt setting on the meter (when it’s spinning, of course)

You didn't mention who makes it but since there is a good chance it is Raymarine, this might help. Again, if Raymarine, their support is very good even for long ago discontinued parts.

It is a Raymarine link 5000. Thank you for this it should give me everything I need to test the unit. Looks like there’s a 8vdc reference coming out of the computer that I’ll need to check for as well.
