Re: Ugly 2018 Catamaran: $144,900

Do a little clever paint job and she looks much nicer.
Don't think she is ugly. To me she looks rather purposeful sturdy.
If there are some proper structural beams built in she may be quite strong.

If she's on the water go for a trial sail and see how she feels on the helm.
Check the bridgedeck clearance.

Check the bulkheads & how the rigging chain plates are attached to them and to the hull.
Check for any rott.

Check all technical systems, sails and engines.
House battery bank is a bit on the small side. Lead acid batteries should be only used to half of their total capacity. So, I'd possibly double that.

If the maintenance has been done diligently, try to talk to the builder or designer.

All the square corners are a deal breaker to me. Stresses are concentrated in corners. Looks like amateurish construction IMHO.

Most plywood catamarans are built like that.
See the Wharrams or Woods designs for example.
If it's done in a proper way it's no issue.
Generally speaking there are some very very good amateur builders around.

are the shrouds actually attached to the cabintop? Above the hull/deck joint? Not good.

Look if there is not a big hefty bulkhead right underneath it..... occasionally boat builders do that :-)
If there is, than its a viable solution.

We do not know how the loads are led into the structure from a few pictures.
It's just speculation...

If the structure underneath is built and arranged accordingly, you can attach a shroud anywhere you want it to come down.
If there is no proper structure underneath you can't attach it anywhere :-)

I think the point most previous posters is that they would need to check out those structures you refer to as would be different to most other catamarans which have chain plates on the outer hull on a B&R style rig.

I suppose you are pointing us to the cabin top shroud attachments.

Looking at the interior photos it shows rather large SS box beam supports transferring the load through the cabin space downward, presumably to the cross beam between almas.

The subject boat may, or may not, have such considerations. They are not obvious.

In my eyes it looks much better then the Lagoons with their oversized flat windows.

I wouldn't touch it unless the price is less than $100k - - be prepared to spend $40k to make it what you want.

Re: Ugly 2018 Catamaran: $144,900

In Europe, we make a lot of "home" made boats... These are often called "construction amateur" and are not necessarily made bu tourists, but by very conscientious obsessive and anal perfectionists... I did that too, from my own drawings...
Usually the problem is the tendency to overbuild, therefore to make everything too heavy. This is even more crucial in the case of a multihull. It looks like this one was very well built, with the correct material in a clean environment. I would try to get the drawings and maybe establish a curve of metacentric efforts to recalculate the positioning of the shrouds...
And yes... the carpeting is not ideal, but lighter and easier to apply and maintain than wood slats.

How many portlights actually open? Looks like it would be hot inside the main cabin.
A ketch rig homemade cat. Hmm. Wouldn't go near it. Especially at that cost. Actually not at any cost. You really have no idea how well it has been put together.

Well, it looks like a familiar design to me... anyone else?
But cant you get a TPI built Lagoon 42 for about that money?
