Hello all CF. All lives were saved.
I'm not much with some seasonal / landlocked sailors judging a skippers decision on the sea. Kindly for all. A.

In general, I've been impressed how the thread has had a lot less by way of judgment/criticism, and many more postings which show earnest attempts to be helpful to the OP and others planning to make such crossings. The discussion about ways to track one's boat electronically in such circumstances strikes me as positive & forward looking rather than second-guessing a past event. Come down off your high perch a bit and you may see it similarly.

All the best to the op and his family for whatever their future holds. I hope the fundraising effort helps give them a new start, whether their boat is ultimately found or not. For those who don't approve of this sort of thing I'd recommend not contributing. Easy enough.

Alastair just forgot to take his med's yesterday. Today I'm sure he will be able to read more clearly. This has been a very rational thread in comparison to historical ones on similar boat losses.

Please. I appreciate the constructive and assisting /informative tone of this thread. I work with vessel recovery Ops in Oz'tralia. Disparaging remarks are nothing but. Best wishes for all. A

Any chance this boat could actually do a loop and end up back in the southern caribe in hurricane alley?

Yes in a few years.

It could easily do a loop of the Atlantic.

The video is very well made. Great job - story well told, good sound, good images, a pleasure to watch and learn!

I hope they will get another boat one day and keep on sailing.

The rudder, the ballast simply CANNOT give on a sailing boat or else. The rigging is probably second on the list.

Yesterday another sailor was pulled out of his damaged boat in the Southern Ocean: the same story - rudder failure. Simply should not happen in boats that are not grounded.

Cheers,
b.

Hey there B.
Generally i feel your comments are well thought.
Havin a bad day are we ?
Curiously, i ask would the owner sue you then for hitting his boat lol ?
How could you hit that little boat in such a big sea ? Hell they cant find it let alone hit it haha.
They had the rudder checked prior to sail.
In the vid it was stated the several other boats met with diaster in that slop..
We read stories of rudder failure or damage and poor construction even the cause , other than hitting unknown odstackes submerged.
I think more boats meet demise from bad thru hulls, just guessing but dont know the statistics.
Its the ocean , schitt happens !
I hope itheir boat shows up by not being hit lol !
Granted i spose these horses have been beat dead thoroughly.
Nazdrowie .

If this boat is found, after many months adrift, what are the chances it's not a total loss??

I don't think you'd get very far with that. It's your responsibility to keep a lookout at all times & do what's necessary to avoid a collision.

If you read this whole thread there is mention of a boat that was lost and drifted over a year, was found, refitted and sailing again.

It may sound ;-) or hahaha or even nazdrovie till the point you actually happen upon such a wreckage when sailing.

Boats abandoned should be scuttled. Why expose other sailors to the risk?

If you think the boat is not about to sink, then why abandon? Cold feet?
