Re: What do you think of this boat?

I was thinking of a getting a lancer motorsailor. I did look at three in the SoCal area in the last few years. I do like the layout and look but the big problem was it did have that cheap build feel to them. Also to big for the loop.

Re: What do you think of this boat?

Lancer might be OK, but it's over priced. That Bristol looks more ready to go, it has a better market value, and it's better built. If you learn more about what kind of boat you really want, as you go along, the Bristol will be easier to sell, and it might bring more that you paid for it.

So, if you really like the Lancer, offer a low price, like $35K, or less.
But go look at the Bristol, and the Lancer before you make any offers.

Re: What do you think of this boat?

If I was in SoCal & could take off work for an extended period of time I'd head for the PNW via Hawaii or the South Pacific via Hawaii. For that I'd be looking for the best quality boat in the best condition that I could afford. If I was on a limited budget I'd look for the smallest boat I could find that would get the job done.

Surely the normal cost of living shouldn’t be included in the discussion? After all, we all have to live somewhere. On a boat or not, in the US or not. $5k a year to maintain a well-found, uncomplicated sailing boat is not all that frugal. Especially if your budget is not aimed at saturation maintenance (trying against all odds to keep the boat new).

But maybe not a Lancer 45

I would add my 2c here regarding the Lancer, but that would be like beating a dead horse....

Re: What do you think of this boat?

The Lancer 45 has a powerboat hull with a few sailboat appendages added.

45 is bigger than you want sailing alone as a newbie.

Re: What do you think of this boat?

I am selling my 2008 37 foot Richard Woods catamaran for 75K... It's in the classifieds section. It's a very inexpensive boat to maintain, there is nothing much to break and the motors are outboards.
