An excellent example on so many points. And blissfully short.

Here's one that died courteously. My guess is it started in the yacht club bar, and ended the next morning. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f19/starting-cruise-around-the-world-with-caribbean-85400.html?highlight=Starting+Cruise+Around+the+Wo rld+with+Caribbean%21

We all know he tried!

Am now reminded of the oldster who tried to leave Calif for Tahiti twice and had to be rescued both times. Near San Diego. Had a dog, I think. And wasn't he an MD? Memory's fading but this happened in the last three years since I joined up. Poor bastard. What's up now for him? Family? Who knows? I'd like to know. Maybe he made it, and is undercover as roverhi.

He's gotta be broke, otherwise he'd have flown over and found some cheap aboat. = abode and boat. I may have just made that term up. You read it here first.

I'm in the yacht club bar. That's where the wifi is. And the women. Topsiders, longish shorts, commando, reptile-emblazoned short sleeves, and Greek fisherman's hat. Doesn't cover your ears but looks cool as Crown Royal. Yeah Baby! Life is good.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

My wife and I were wannabees back in 2009 when we joined CF. We retired in Dec. 2010, bought a boat, move aboard in Jan 2011 and spent winter near Annapolis,MD learning the boat. Explored the Chesapeake 3 weeks, then sailed up the coast from Norfolk to Maine.
Made the passage from Hampton to Tortola Nov. 2011 and sailed slowly to Grenada. Boat on the hard for hurricane season.
Thanks to all the folks on CF who helped us!

There is a boat here named "ETCHINGS" he always seems to have at least one woman on board when he heads out.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I once read story about a potential "wannabee", a bloke from the UK who had to wait until he was 50 to launch his boat. Next step he took on the dry was somewhere in Brazil. Appears that fighting a war, raising kids, and having to build his boat were major stumbling blocks. I won't be building but I have still have time to trade up from my 17 footer. Takes all kinds to fuel the sea...... and great sailing forums like this one. : )

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Knew a fellow once who named his boat "after you". Whenever he'd invite a delectable and impressionable member of female side of our species back for a drink, she would invariably ask "what's the name of your boat?"

The answer, I named it "after you" was a no-fail score line. They died laughing when they got to the boat, after that, the rest was simple

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

to get to tahiti, first come to banderas bay and head out with or not with the puddle jumpers on their annual rally---met some great folks doing that jump--i am not doing that, but the group eaves her every spring. that way isnt one huge jump, but shorter hops--might be a good way to go ....

If that works they should be dropping their draws to see my electric propulsion system.
