when i posted this as food for thought on an alternative to the current economic model.
it was not as a political comment, rather about the success of companies like the MONDRAGON Corporation.

https://www.mondragon-corporation.com/en/about-us/

currently thinking up possible ways of selling my 63 ft yacht, that possibly would be ideal as a co-operative venture for a group of wannabee cruisers as a project

something along the lines of these cruisers project

That gave me flashbacks to college economics courses.

I don't know if capitalism is working for everybody, but looking at our year end 401K and fund returns for 2019, it sure worked good for us this year!

Happy New Year!

you should be fine as long as the government can keep using your 401k savings to service the 9 trillion debt it owes on your behalf to the 87 individuals that own more assets than half the population of the planet

They impart knowledge and instill confidence in wannabees with tales of high seas adventure and of nautical mishaps ,on docks,in bars and frequently on forums to the great unwashed dirt dwelling flock of non sea dwelling wage slaves

I fell in love sailing as a kid in my Sabot, and then later in college with a Hobie catamaran. While I still love sailing, the fact is that sailing in a cruising sailboat, while most often enjoyable, is not really what I would call fun. The cruising experience is of course much more than sailing, but if really the sailing part is what turns you on you would probably be better off day sailing in a small craft where you really get that "being one with the boat" feeling.

Do they? Sometimes experienced cruisers and ex cruisers are the opposite. Wannabes seem to get chasing the dream part of cruising, while experienced cruisers are running from the nightmare parts. Sp wannabes are all pretty beaches and nice sundowners, and experienced cruisers are “damn that was a nasty crossing”.

But in the end the cruisers handle the nasty crossing and head to the beach the next day and spin it into a story, but the wannabes just washout.

I'm sorry. I just can't make myself hate someone because they are more successful than me, or have more money than me.

Everyone I know, who is really well off, worked their ass off to get there. Most worked a lot harder, than I really want to.

I'm pretty happy with what I have, and feel like I have about what I deserve, based on the effort I put in.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Back to the intent of this original post

This wannabee was quiet and never spoke up. Sat back quietly and read everything posted on here every day for many years. Took sailing lessons. Got life affairs in order. Quietly to not be the one who speaks of a dream but never does it.

This year we bought a Lagoon 400. And are now bouncing around the Caribbean, having a blast

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I’ve replied a couple times to this thread. I started as so many, asking a buttoad of ignorant questions on my thread - 50 and Shoving Off - wishing for the best, learning from everyone.....including the ass hats and then spent 6 months cruising from Corpus Christi, TX to the Bahamas. What an experience, broke some major things, had weather and waves we weren’t ready for, ran aground on the Mississippi river, spent a beautiful week anchored in Ft Jefferson, 3 months in Grand Bahamas and the N Abacos and learned better weather planning so next time I’m not constantly beating into the wind and waves with a 1982 36’ Cape Dory covered in dried salt. We’ve now formed a 501c3 non profit charity, Sailing4Smiles.com, are on land making money, stocking the boat with better equipment, still hitting CF on a daily basis learning more and getting ready to head back out in Jan 2021.
I was too busy trying to not sink the boat during our little expedition to keep up w CF.
I also learned that being Polite makes you a LOT more friends and garners more help.....so be Polite. You never know who you’ll run into later.
