Happy for you it worked out.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

This wannabee took a good hard look at where we were versus where we had hoped to be. Then we took all of the ASA lessons we could, sold everything and moved to Florida. Got a power boat, took it all over making sure we were versed in navigation and long weeks on the hook. (this took about 5 years) We have since sold the Florida home, Sold the Express Cruiser and just last week went under offer on a Beneteau 393. Now we are waiting on the rigging inspection the Survey, the Sea Trial and then HOPEFULLY we will take acceptance of her on the 23rd!!!!

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Wow, thanks a lot GordMay., and thanks for the advice over the last few years.
We just recv’d 11 cases of toothpaste and another corporate donation of 144 toothbrushes is on the way.
We’ll be raising the waterline soon :-)

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I was once a “wannabee,” that’s why I still get notifications about this thread that I joined, over 4 years ago probably...

Now I’m 4 years into cruising full time... hopefully this’ll serve as some inspiration for others from my recently documented Fiji to New Zealand. https://youtu.be/AfTY-1kcS0A

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Good for you!! Now the real fun begins. Fill the boat up with absolutely everything you can need or want, sail around for a few months and then take half of it off :-) We’re still trying to find that perfect balance of needs vs wants.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Making progress. We were at St. Vincent, Blue Water Lagoon -- diving and then a week at a catamaran sailing school there. March 10 thru March 28,2020. We were on a Lagoon 38 because I had thought that is what we would buy in the next 9-12 months. Decided we didn't like the way the catamarans sailed. 2 days of rough weather and just pounded instead of sailing. Also motor sailed all week. Why have a sailboat if you have to listen to the motor all the time. It was the most wonderful vacation and saved us from making a huge mistake buying the wrong boat I had read people saying to charter a similar boat to what you intend to buy before making that investment and thought that a waste of funds. Boy was I wrong. This really saved us from making a mistake. :smile

Congratulations on deciding that sailing was more important then accommodations. It puts you in the minority, but it's a good place to be.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Yeah, my husband really surprised me with that one. I thought for sure he would want the more above water accommodations with the catamaran, but was very adamant that a mono was it for him. I'm just so happy that he is willing to do any kind of sail boat that I don't care what it is. He used to race motor boats so this is a win/win for me either way.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I'm sure it's just as important to know what you don't want, as it is to know what you do. I'd be a millionaire today if I had followed that advice. Good luck to you!

It sounds like pretty good progress towards your goal! Where in Indiana is home?
