Where to get sailing info

When I sail to a new area, I would like information on local places to sail to and enjoy. If I Google for information, I only get charter companies trying to get me to buy a ticket on their boat. Is there a source for information rather than selling something?

Ask here! We have members familiar with every corner of the globe. Something like this would get you starter:

"I'm from North Carolina but would like to explore the Salish Sea. Please give me some names of interesting place to go."

How would you like to see Princess Louisa Inlet? Or, further afield, Alert Bay? Or Sointula with the oldest "socialist" co-operative grocery store in North America?

Would you like to know why it is that Satellite Channel, called after an English ship, is in the Canadian Gulf Islands, while Prevost Island, called after that ship's captain is in the American St. Juan Islands? Would you like to know why the ambitions expressed in President Polk's slogan "Fiftyfour-forty or fight!" never had a hope in Hades of becoming reality?

Or would you just like to enjoy the orcas and the hump-back whales sounding right next to you boat?
