Some people feel they have nothing of great value to add, so remain silent.

Others amongst us don't feel constrained by such minor details

I'm not very active here mostly because I don't have much else to add.

Welcome to the forum. I think it's fine if you lurk.

Lurker does not participate in normal forum discourse, but he's out there...watching, reading every message. Generally, he is quite harmless. In fact, his silence usually reflects a natural reticence rather than any sinister motives. He is content to let the other people haul the conversational freight and, if a fight breaks out he will observe quietly. Occasionally, however, some mysterious impulse drives him to de-lurk and attack. Other Warriors regard his unexpected assault as an ambush, and invariably turn on him savagely. But Lurker seldom sticks around to fight it out, rather, after a brief exchange, he slips away, never to be heard from again.

Bahahaha that was me in reference to some tipped over catabanam thread. If any of you ever feel the need to know how to do something, feel free to come ask me in person (I'll be around).

Edit: When I say in person, I mean physically show up at my door. Of course you'll quickly realize what I'm telling you to do is wrong... It's a hard life.

Edit Edit: If you're good enough at the internet to actually trace me to my home from this forum, please refrain from showing up at my door.

Newbies come here looking for information - and there's tons here to consume ...
Having been aboard the CF since it’s inception (2003), I’ve seen the same questions posed over and over again.
Just when I begin to think that I’m tiring of the repetition, a newer member (you are almost all newer, to me) offers up a unique perspective, unknown or forgotten fact, or just an interesting turn of phrase, that re-invigorates the conversation.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Calindor, and ScottMeilicke.

Re: Why Won't Some of You Lurkers Come into the Light ?

Of course one can suggest that a .270 WSM has a better MOA then a normal .270, but then one must consider the cost difference, and whether or not it really matters in the field.

OOOOOOOOOPSSSSS... wrong forum... but what the hey, it's still a good argument, and it is about GUNS

Re: Why Won't Some of You Lurkers Come into the Light ?

When I logged in it said I last visited in 2009. Me excuse is after my singlehanded Baja adventure my wife said no more boats. Something about the Captain of the Norwegian Star calling her and saying "We just saved your husband at sea". She bought me a metal detector for Christmas and told me to go do what old men do. Buuutttt.... what memories.

Re: Why Won't Some of You Lurkers Come into the Light ?

This doesn't affect me personally (I'm not that sensitive, but I AM that observant ), but it could be that some new members are underwhelmed by the 5 actual responses from the 2000 people that read their intro post. Mind you....from the OP we can determine that at least 1000 people that read their intro post are serial lurkers anyway

It could be that boatless sailing newbies may fear being easily dismissed as "just another dreamer that won't make a go of it" and so refrain from getting too entrenched in the discussion until they can boast some progress (that sounds a little more like me

or maybe we got hopelessy lost in the sub forums a month ago, and have been trying to read our way out ever since

cheers....jas

That wouldn't have been a 45' yacht by the name of Carpe Diem, would it? I saw a news article about it. Very sorry you lost your boat, but on the other hand, you're still around to tell the tale.
