Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

Hello to all.

For all those interested, the autopilot circuitry is in the message.
I decided to finalize my autopilot. How to control 8 functions using the remote control with 4 buttons?

Hi Alex, great job.

Could you please be so kind and repost the circuit.
It's not displayed when clicking it...

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

Hi!

I have an old Autohelm 2000 which I like very much.
I found your thread when searching for a way to build a remote for it.

I´m not looking for a wireless solution, I just want a simple wired remote option to use under the sprayhood in heavy rain.

Since you have so much knowledge about these old autopilots, would a wired remote be a simple thing to build?

All the best..

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

Hey.
It seems to me that a wired remote control is not the best solution, since it will turn out to be more difficult and there may be problems with water resistance.
Why don't you want a wireless solution?

Regards, Alex.

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

Do you mean it is a technically more complex thing to build than a wireless?

I was thinking of putting it permanently alongside my instruments under the sprayhood.
Waterproofing would then be fairly easy.

I know about the wireless i3dgear.com solution but I was hoping a wired remote would be an easy thing to build.

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

In my opinion, a wired remote has no advantages!
The i3dgear.com wireless solution is very expensive!
In my case, the cost was about $ 10 and 3 hours of personal time ...
If you need a detailed description with photos - I will send!

Sorry, I didn’t understand the protocol that is used in the wired solution, so I can’t tell you.
Regards, Alex.

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

I checked the operation of the remote control using optical relays on a cruise on Lake Onega for 3 weeks. Everything works fine, no crashes noted!

Re: Adding wireless remote to a old Autohelm 3000

I was having issues with my AH3000 recently. I found the connector for the drive unit (2 pins) was shorting across the wires inside the connector. I thought I had fixed it and was testing it. It didn't work. Then I realized it was getting very hot. I opened it up and found the big green cylindrical thing on the red wire going to the drive had slightly melted. I believe the system is not fused. I need to get another one of these doohickies, but I have no idea what it is. Can someone help me?

This is absolutely brilliant. I wanted to try to do the same, but cry early on I got lost with the technical jargon, etc. Is anyone doing these for other people?

It would be useful to know, where you're located. If you're in Europe, we could make it a joint project. It's also on my list of things to do sometimes, now that a friend 3d-printed me a new holding plate.
