AIS alarm won't shut off

I have a Digital Yacht AIS transponder running to a Raymarine E120 (1st gen). Also runs Raymarine radar and autopilot. The AIS danger alarm sounds constantly close to harbors and channels, and I have gone into AIS setup, but cannot turn the alarm off completely.

Any ideas?

I misstated.. It is a C-120. Big mistake.

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

On my Standard Horizon GX-2150 and CP590 I get tcpa alarms if a boat get within the distance I have set in the menu. There isn't a way to turn it off with out turning off the ability to receive targets. I set mine at 1.5 miles here on the upper Mississippi River that works well enough to not be bothered by alarms from boats that do not need my attention.

On the C120 press the Menu button, select Alarm Setup then select AIS Alarms to turn off the Dangerous Target alarm.

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

I have had this problem with NASCAR ais. However only in certain areas. I have sailed the coast of Morocco twice and on both occasions it would sound incessantly despite rebooting and no other vessel in sight or on the screen. It happened for a few hours mid atlantic also. My only suspicion might be inland radar or some such thing on the Moroccan coast, possibly submarine mid atlantic though doubt whether they would be announcing their presence! Which reminds me I really must ring up NASA and ask for their views. But I will follow this thread with interest too.

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

Are you connected via NMEA 2000? Raymarine chart plotters have known issues connecting to non-Raymarine AIS. A suggested work around is to connect via NMEA 0183. You'll then have to go into settings on the chart plotter and change port 2 to AIS 38400.

There is no way to turn off the "no sensor" or "no sog" alarms. The system is telling you the external gps puck is not sending a signal. On my system, I cleaned the gps puck contacts then installed ferrites on both ends of the gps puck cable. I also had to relocate the gps puck to an place with less stray RF which solved the problem.

FWIW... On our plotter (different brand) I think the "alarms" menu is separate from the "setup" menu. I think in "alarms" I can choose on/off, distances, CPAs, etc...

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

Is it an AIS alarm or a GPS alarm. It sounds like the "Lost AIS Signal" alarm I get on my C120. I haven't checked the AIS handling on my C120 for several years, but in the past it would drop targets after 2 minutes with no messages. When the last target timed out it would display the "Lost AIS Signal" alarm. IF the last AIS target is on the edge of reception there could be a sequence of a single msg is received and 2 minute later times out causing repeated alarms. It is a bogus alarm, which Raymarine should have removed years ago. AFAIK, there is no way to turn off the alarm.

I too have the Vesper Watchmate transponder connected to Raymarine E120 and am inundated with dangerous target alarms when close to marinas and anchorages. This is a huge distraction at a time that requires attention and concentration. Has anyone else with this issue found a solution?

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

Yes.... As a last resort... I can't remember exactly how to do it and I'm not near my 120. But roughly... find the system integration setting and the port that's marked as talking to the AIS. Change the setting to something other than AIS and the 120 will stop pinging. However it turns everything off so you need to reverse the procedure when you want the AIS to work again.

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

I have a Standard Marine 2100 radio connected to a Raymarine E80 chartplotter.

I get AIS alarms constantly. I fixed it by turning off the Raymarine.

But then I get constant no position data alarms from the Standard Marine.

So now I sail with an IPad and a handheld radio. I get AIS warnings visually.

Got to love all these high speed tech devices.

Re: AIS alarm won't shut off

Don't your systems give you menu control over alarms? Off, off for targets closer than X, off for targets not moving, etc.?

Ours lets us filter out alarm conditions...

Is the alarm condition from the Vesper (targets will turn red) or from the Raymarine E120?
