AIS configuration to chartplotter

Hi
I have a GME AIST120 Transceiver and trying to connect it to my Lowrance Elite FS9 to no avail. It is via the NMEA2000 cable connecting the 2. Any ideas appreciated

Re: AIS configuration to chartplotter

When you say "It is via the NMEA2000 cable connecting the 2." do you mean you you have connected the AIS and chartplotter via a single cable ?

You need to install a basic NMEA 2000 network consisting of at least three T-pieces, one NMEA 2000 12V DC power cable, two terminating resistors and two drop cables connected to the AIS and chartplotter.

Re: AIS configuration to chartplotter

Hi the Lowrance chartplotter has the main power cable going in as well as transducer cable and the NMEA cable from its dedicated port to the AIS so there is three connections. Do i still need the T Pieces and terminating resistors

I think this is a case of RTFM.

The page displaying the wiring diagram clearly shows what a NMEA 2000 network requires.

In fairness to the OP, the diagram DOES NOT CLEARLY show what n2k network requires, just shows a snippet of a n2k network. The n2k discription is limited to:

"NMEA 2000® (B)
The NMEA 2000® data port allows receiving and sharing of a multitude of data from various sources"

not particularly descriptive of whats needed.
