AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

I have a Furuno FA50 linked to Furuno MFD which is showing all AIS boats as usual but when I select target 'Information' only dashed lines are displayed for the target vessels CPA and TCPA - all other info (name, speed etc) is displayed as usual. The proximity alarm works fine when vessels are within the set distance. all other navigational data is good. I assume my AIS transmission is ok as friends can follow me on marine traffic (haven't had a chance to ask anyone how I show up). I have done the self tests of GPS and transducer and tests OK. Unit was working fine last season but since I have been back on the boat for the last few weeks this very useful info not displayed - any suggestions?

Do you have heading? It probably needs that. Pilot turned off?

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

The CPA calculation requires your own vessel's SOG and COG, are they showing correctly on your MFD?

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

Wow - Hadn't noticed that when I select information on a target 'Heading' is not displayed (dashed line) yet my heading is displayed on my plotter and auto pilot. Under target information I have a bearing to them as well as their COG, SOG, Range and bearing. I have my own Heading SOG and COG on my plotter and other instruments - could this somehow not be communicated to the FA50?

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

Not all AIS stations send heading data. COG and SOC for both your vessel and the target should be enough for TCA calculation.

Im having exactly the same problem with my Furuno. Used to show CPA etc but now doesn't. All other Nav data is showing correctly.

I have the same problem as well. I have been through the Manuel with no luck. Maybe it is a furuno problem?

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

But OP clearly says it is a transmitter. So this has its own GPS that is not shared. Thus the plotter has its own gps unit likely.

Check your ais unit gps antenna and cabling (if antenna external).

If antenna internal, remove the unit and drag it to the service point. Possibly the gps chip inside died.

As others said cpa tcpa calculated from this antenna's data. No antenna, no gps data, no cpa no tcpa. But your ais can be fine displayed internally or on the plotter.

It is VERY odd your friends can see you on their ais screens as your ais tx signal contains your gps data. This would suggest the data is there. Which is odd.

Cheers,
b.

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

cpa and tcpa are a function controlled by your chart plotter software for AIS. I would first install the latest update from Furuno and if that does not work call Furuno tech support.

Disregard. Stupid post. I thought about a different unit. The poster above got it right. Tcpa and cpa controlled by the display unit.

Apologies,
barnakiel

Re: AIS CPA and TCPA not showing

What model MDF are we talking about? Can everyone who is having the problem report what MFD model they have? Maybe that's the common thread?
