Alpha Tube 4G SIM data plans

I bought an Alpha Tube 4G, and now I'm looking for a compatible SIM card for Florida, Bahamas, and maybe a few other Caribbean countries.

Anyone have any experience with this product?

and what would be a compatible SIM card?

I'm calling tech support Monday.

Re: Alpha Tube 4G SIM data plans

This is a really complicated question, and you haven't given nearly enough data to even begin to answer. Anybody's sim card will WORK, but the one that makes sense for you is a tough choice.

Will you be based mostly in the US? Or out island full time?
How much data do you expect to be using?
Do you need a constant phone number?
Are you cool with getting a SIM card in each country you visit?

I don't have experience with this product however it is clear that it is a cell phone based system that can be hooked up to a computer or a wifi router.

You will need a sim card for each country you visit. If you get a sim card from a major cell service provider it may work in many countries but you may have to pay roaming fees, or a higher basic monthly fee.

My advice is get a sim card from a good provider which offers roaming in most other countries, but then buy a local sim card in the places you visit which will undoubtably be cheaper. Put the major card in when you are travelling but replace it with a local if you are staying for a while. If you wish for people to be able to call you, invoke call forwarding on the major card to whatever local card you have at the time.

As for data, you can almost always put additional balance on your local sim card then spend that on a data package which will be cheap.

Re: Alpha Tube 4G SIM data plans

I'll be mostly in the USA, Florida, and in Bahamas several months.

I think a prepaid will be best, I have a Tmobile phone for calls, but I hate using my phone for data.

Also my experience with Tmobile in Bahamas, is half the time I got nothing, the other half 1 bar, and LTE only (slow, and spotty).

I've got no problem buying BTC while in Bahamas.

I'm thinking Google Fi, or another international sim, that hopefully works in multiple countries.

Maybe a cheap data only monthly plan for USA, and a prepaid international.

The hotspot would be for internet when WIFI isn't available.

Re: Alpha Tube 4G SIM data plans

According to the manual and the specs the Alfa Tube U4G takes a “standard” SIM (sometimes also called a “Mini” SIM because it is smaller than the OG full-size SIM). The standard is 25mm x 15mm. Many SIMs you get nowadays are micro that can be cut down to nano, but no longer have the standard cutout. Worth spending the $0.99 to carry a standard to micro adapter so if you end up with a smaller SIM you’re not trying to cut an adapter by hand (yes, it can be done, but it just isn’t worth the time).
