Anchor Alarm on iPhone

I used it a few times, and seems to work well. But am I the only one who doesn't gave too much confidence in iPhone's gps.

I like Burl's idea too, except I always have my phone on me

A very useful cool iPhone anchor alarm feature would be the ability to shade in the area on a chart where that you don't want to swing outside of. You could mark coral heads, shoals and other boats swing circles. Or at least center the alarm circle anywhere, not just around the current position.

What distance and accuracy do you guys set it for?

I've used it on a few windier/bumpier nights. The boat barely moved, but the damn gps accuracy alarm kept waking me up.

If it helps, I have just published "Anchor Alarm Free" to Google Market.
It is a no frills GPS based android (2.1 and above) anchor alarm. And it is free , with no ads either.

"GPS based anchor alarm. Set anchor location & maximum drift. Enable the alarm.
GPS position is checked every 20 seconds. An alarm (beep) is emitted if drift outside this limit is detected. Resets if drift reduces.
Limited to only work in foreground, also there is no loss of fix alarm.
Upgrades planned in the near future."

It's still undergoing tweaks (like making it available on lower API version phones for instance). All feedback would be welcome.

Well thank you. I just installed it on my HTC and the ease of use and the pure practicality blow me away,,,,,,,, kudos sir, kudos

Even though it's really fly by night toys and unreliable equipment I says as I sit her typing this on the iPad waiting for the blow to pass. The blow I knew about and tracked on weather apps, in addition to the tidal shifts that affected the seas in route on yet other apps, not to mention chart plotting, google earth overlays, and I even watched President Obama's announcement in my bunk last night.
Do I plan on learning to use a sextant? I'd like to, in the meantime, damn these toys are fun. And now an anchor alarm......... I KNEW someone could do that.........
