Android malware masquerades as ‘Process Manager’,

Android spyware, linked to Russian hackers, tracks location, records audio
Researchers uncovered a previously unknown, Russian-linked Android malware, that masquerades as a system app called ‘Process Manager’, while collecting a wealth of user data. The app tricks the user to grant itself as many as 18 permissions, which would allow it to invade your life, in numerous ways. It can track your precise location, record audio from your device, access files, read messages, access the camera, and modify some device settings.

Re: Android malware masquerades as ‘Process Manager’,

Thanks for the heads-up. But that article is sort of pointless, since it doesn't explain how one would have this app installed. If it had been in the app store, under a specific app name and developer name, then it's possible some readers might remember installing it.

I checked and didn't see it there. But even if it was there once, the casual user wouldn't typically install something like that. I think the article intentionally neglected to mention how unlikely it is that any reader might be affected.

So, while the detailed report may be interesting to data security folks, that first link is essentially click bait.
