Any experience with Veratron LINK UP J1939 ?

This device is intended to convert engine information to NMEA 2000 data. I'm interested in using it to get engine info from our relatively recent Yanmar onto our B&G MFD.

I understand that Yacht Devices and Maretron make similar hardware, but this one is less expensive (about $130)

From what I understand of the electronic functionality it ought to be possible to build such a thing fairly inexpensively, but it would be good to get some feedback from a user.
Thanks
