Anyone uses an e-ink reader/tablet like Kindle as jumbo data display?

I found this great Android app:

Which allows you to configure NMEA data displays at will. Love it.



Now I'm wondering if someone is successfully using an ex book reader/tablet with fully functioning android as exterior display.

As we only want to show numbers on the display it seems ideal for this.



They use very little energy, have large screens. are sunlight readable and are made to withstand beach use (=waterproof to some extent).



If you do use one, please share the exact model number and your experiences.

Early 2021 we started using a Kindle Paperwhite 2 (from ~2013) to display a simple webpage with a few large numbers: Heading, depth, SOG, AWA and AWS. This was used inside the boat by the bed to have a look when wind pipes up at anchor.
That webpage was served by a PI running signalk and some plugin, refresh rate about 1 sec.
It lasted a year, then the first permanent lines showed, usable for a few more months, then we tossed it.
Hopefully the e-ink displayed have improved...
