Apple does not like third party developers making things for their products unless there is money in it for Apple. I don't think it is going to be any different this time. Besides, its never smart to buy the first version of any Apple product. The second and third versions always have major improvements and for pretty much the same price or less.

I really like the idea of the iPad...for reading. I am going to wait for that second or third better and cheaper version.

Swiss Army knife ideas that try to be something for everyone usually do poorly at all tasks. Its probably best to use things that are specifically designed for navigation, for your navigation.

I can't wait to see Apple put a phone in the iPad and watch people walking around with one of those things up against their head.

I love apple...
I agree with the fact that GPSNavX is a great product. I have it on my laptop too for 4 years (MacBook). Service is very good.
I have Navionic on my iPhone and i think it is more a third GPS (after the onboard Furuno and the one with the laptop) than a true navigation tool. It is funny to use it on earth to dream of future navigation or maybe to find your boat in a crowded anchoring spot after drinking a little bit too much... I am witing for the iPad too and I hope the GPS function will work better than on the iPhone.

I was under the impression that Bluetooth is standarized and that every bluetooth stack supports serial data ports. My Shipmodul mux uses that BT serial port service to send the NMEA output.
no unfortunately not, it depends on the available bluetooth profiles that are available on the protocol stack. Apples bluetooth stack on the iPhone is closed and not replaceable and currently does not support serial or human interface ( mice keyboards etc)
device protocols. It's a poor implementation

Though they must be adding support for at least keyboard-type HIDs -- their bluetooth keyboard is listed as a compatible accessory.

yes it would seem logical that HID profile is being added to the Ipad

Thumbs up Photos on iPad

You can transfer photos directly from your camera to the iPad via the camera adapter. You also can transfer to the iPad anything that is on your computer. You do this when you synchronize your iPad to the computer. This includes photos, movies, applications, PDF's, music, etc.
Photos can also be taken directly from e-mail and websites, and placed into your iPad.
You can import them using WiFi.
It will be nice if we see a camera on the next version of iPad, but I really don't miss it on my current model. The only real advantage for me would be that the person I am talking to on Skype would be able to see me, and I am not so sure they would see THAT as an advantage!
On land and sea, the iPad is an excellent little navigational tool, and it does so much more!

This procedure works: get cruisers forum app from appstore. (free try link to itunes for app download. )

When you want to reply or post press attachment button.
Select appropriate photo from album

I attach a photo from my library using iPad as an example. Good luck

Although I still use my iPad I have had to revert to using a laptop again as Apple refuses to support Adobe Flash whic is used extensively on websites for viewing webcams etc. The primary use for me is to view bar crossing cameras along the east coast of Australia whic I just cannot do with the iPad.

I use the iPad browser called Skyfire that allows you to watch flash videos.

I just tried with safari on iPad, and no attaching of images appears to be possible. Again, the cruisers forum app is free, and givesbyou more functionality then a browser based forum.

Best.
