Hi has anyone Austravel Safety Net for their HF radio. For $100 a year looks like good value.

Looks to be aimed at the 4WD crowd. Not sure what value it adds for sailors.

They will let persons with ships HF radios use their network. Free sms, gps tracking and messagings going to a mail box. You can also make phone calls to any Australian mobile. The network has 5 base stations around Australia and morning and afternoon skeds.

I'm not sure I understand. Did you mean you could use HF radio, and get a radio patch into the phone network? If so, how does it work?

Here in Tasmania, there is TAS MARITIME, via whom, if you join, you will receive phone messages (the people call them, they radio you). I don't know what the fees are. They service foreign yachts as a courtesy. VHF and 3 HF frequencies, so coverage from about 1/2 way through Bass Straits throughout Tasmania, including King Is. and Flinders Is. Not sure if they also cover the Kent Group.
