Autopilot/autohelm, no return to course option?

Been using various autopilots from Raymarine and B&G for about the past 20+ years. Unless I have been doing something wrong , why do none of them have a way to return to course.

Ex. Hit the auto button so it is keeping a course of XXX (I normally don't see this heading, it is just on auto). See a lobster pot in the way, hit stby, turn wheel a bit, miss pot, want to resume heading. Wish it had a resume. Yes, I know it would be off a bit since I moved the wheel, but...

I know instead of hitting stb, when i see the pot , i can hit 4 deg in one direction on autopilot pad, hopefully that is enough to miss the pot w lag and hunting in the system , then hit 4 deg back.

Also, when navigating to waypoint I think you can do this via resume function on the autopilot, but painful to bring up menus to just miss lobster pot.

But maybe I am not doing this correctly during the past 20 years?
