Autopilot Furuno 511 - Experiences anyone?

I'm considering a 511 autopilot with hydraulic pump for my new yacht. For various reasons it looks like a suitable system from a spec's point of view.

I'm always suspicious of AP's, based on experience of bad performances in the past (several yachts with pilots that would only steer properly when motoring in light winds, and certainly fail when sailing in anything resembling waves...)

So I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it?

(The yacht is 60' monohull sloop, depl=17t, dual rudder hydraulic steering)

Thx
/j

Im using the navpilot 511. Its performed well for me with one exception. Its settings got screwed up once. I called furuno and they had a tech waiting for me when I got to the nearest dock. He told me there is a feature in the heading sensor that they should have just left off its buggy. It is supposed to automatically compensate for compass deviation but can be upset by moving something near or by it with a metallic content, he said if i leave it off I wont have the problem again. I havent. Ive done sails on all points and in all weather and with the proper sail trim havent had any problems holding a course. Morgan 33 oi with hydraulic helm
