B&G 608 wind sensor

I recently had my 6 year old wind sensor act up. I wasn't getting any wind direction, wind speed readings and was getting weird depth, and just confused data on my B&G chart plotter. I unplugged the wind sensor cable from the NEMA 2000 backbone which cleared up erroneous messages but obviously I had no wind data. I assumed I needed a new wind sensor so I ordered and just installed. It still doesn't read any wind data. Any ideas?

Re: B&G 608 wind sensor

On the plotter ensure the wind instrument is visible and transmitting data.
Then define the new wind instrument as a data source.
Settings/network/devices.

The menu is fiddly.
B&G will have a manual for download on their website even for discontinued model plotters.

If fail then hardware problem.

The cable from the wind instrument must be the backbone not a riser from the backbone. This is due to the length of the cable run.

Ensure your log (DST) is on a riser and the wind (or wireless repeater) is on the backbone.
Easy to have them reversed as they often join the rest of the network at a common location.

Hope this helps
