B&G Zeus2 Issues

Hi,

We are having issues with a new to us B&G Zeus2.

1) The unit seems to restart on its own every once in a while out of no where.

2) The true wind speed and apparent wind speed are practically the same all of the time, even if we are motoring straight into the wind. Any ideas?

We have the Zeus 2, 508 wind sensor, two T41's (I think), auto pilot and some kind of depth sensor. We do not have a boat speed sensor.

Thanks!

Well, for starters, if you don't have a boat speed sensor, the B&G does not have the data it needs to calculate true wind speed. It can only read its wind sensor, so you are always getting apparent wind. Now, it is certainly true that the GPS can give you SOG, and that this is more useful than a paddlewheel that gives you speed through the water, but, on at least older units, that's what they usually require. Your manual may well tell you the sensor that is needed.

Is the unit up to date with software updates? (I think 18.1 is the most recent version) Check the B&G website.

You can dive into the menus and set the GPS SOG to be the source of STW data that the system needs to calculate true wind. I know this is available in the Triton display setup menus, pretty sure it is in the Zeus as well.

Re: B&G Zeus2 Issues

We updated it in April. I'll have to check what version it is.

Any idea where in the menu that would be?

When I look at data sources for true wind the options are "this display" and the autopilot (ac42 or something like that?)

Make that setting in the Triton... it will then supply STW (actually SOG relabled) and True Wind data to the Zeus.

Re: B&G Zeus2 Issues

If the Zeus and Triton are showing DIFFERENT data, that shouldn't happen.

Assuming your network is connected and configured properly, your next stop should be B&G tech service. They will walk through it with you on the phone.

Re: B&G Zeus2 Issues

Found it, settings, advanced, instruments, use SOG for true wind.

It should be more correct than boat speed (especially since we dont have a transducer at the moment). Only unforeseen downsize is of course the chartplotter must be turned on for true wind to display on triton.
