I had a better laugh from that than from 99% of the Joke Thread.

GPS Status gives you all that, except VMG.

Re: Best GPS Android App?

I am assuming others are referring to the same GPS Status app that I am; unfortunately there are two apps with similar names. The app I use is officially called "GPS Status & Toolbox"; the waypoint capabilities require the PRO version - start saving your money for the $2.48 price. The other app is "GPS Status Test & Fix" which is conveniently named to be easily confused with both GPS Status and GPS Test :-)

Yes, I was also referring to "GPS Status & Toolbox". In addition to "GPS Status Test & Fix", there's also another app called simply "GPS Status" by espresso3389.

I have only tried "GPS Status & Toolbox". I don't normally use it for navigation, only to monitor status and configure the GPS receiver and compass. I use MX Mariner as a backup nav app.

One benefit of "GPS Status & Toolbox" is that it seems to speed up the initial acquisition of satellite signals, so I start it just for that before I run MX Mariner.

Dockhead--if you really want to have all the information that a handheld GPS provides, why don't you just get the real thing? For example, for not much more than a $100, you can get Garmin 72H, which is relatively small, waterproof, it floats, and it's very easy to use with buttons instead of a touch screen.
