Buoy Weather

We are about to leave Brisbane, Australia for Thursday Island, Indonesia, Phillipines etc .
I want to have good weather forecasting.

I do not have HF.
I have mobile phone with External aerial, modem, laptop etc.
I will get an Indonesian sim card once we arrive there.
I may get a sat phone?(and compression program)

Is "Buoy Weather" the best available for the money.
Any comments.
We are a 43 ft aluminium Motor sailor trimaran with outboards and sail, with a draft of 1 ft.

Re: Buoy Weather

If you get a sat phone you can always call someone onshore to forward the relevant weather to you.

If coasting, then I would guess you can get VHF weather all the way behind Cooktown and then again at Thursday.

A small SSB receiver will let you tune into Oz CG forecast too in between Cooktown and Thursday.

Re: Buoy Weather

I used to use BuoyWeather. About 2 years ago I switched to WindFinder. It gives the same quality and I find the forecasts to be about the same. WindFinder is free and provides 7 days for free (even though 2-3 days are about all I ever look at).

Re: Buoy Weather

I do not like the Windfinder. I find them in error most of the time. They are good on wave forecast but poor on wind and rain.

Windguru not much difference. The Norwegian site better - but this one not detailed enough for my location.

This may have to do with my specific location - our island is pretty mountainous.

Re: Buoy Weather

Thanks Barnakeil,
I found windfinder not much good for eastern Indonesia and windguru not much better.
It looks like BUOYWEATHER is the go for the area i am looking at , though to get more than 2 days it costs.
Any other recommendations.?

I have a 43 ft motor sailor, we have plenty of time and I would like to pick calm windows wherever possible and island hop all the way to the phillipines, through indonesia, from thursday island, Australia.
