Channel 16

It would be so cool if everyone stayed off 16 and called their buddies on 9. Then I could leave 16 on and hear only urgent broadcasts.I try but then I turn the radio off because of all the traffic that is so not urgent.

Re: Channel 16

There are too many knuckleheads on Ch 16, especially on the weekends.

Re: Channel 16

Tell them to get off 16 unless it's an emergency, and go to 9.

Re: Channel 16

You should hear the "traffic" on 16 here in Mexico! It is unbelievable how much worse it is than in the US. I would still be hard pressed to not monitor 16 during a passage. We just deal with it and monitor 16 (even if we have to listen to the locals ordering dinner).
When we are anchored or in the marina we stay on channel 22 (if the traffic gets too much I will turn off 22).

Well 16 is off and Lois and Ella are singing. Maybe a good suggestion to let the radio sit on 22

You are (hopefully) singing to the choir. Or is this a gripe session?

Beat me to it! I squelch it down to only the closest of boats. Hell I'm in a sailboat... if someone is 20 miles away and coastwise; I'm not gonna be much help anyhow... OPen water... different story, but then less radio traffic too

Re: Channel 16

It wouldn'y do any good to change channels, the morons would just follow to the new one because they are COOL.

Just like CB radio's back in the 60's used to run channel 10. The local base stations ran 9 for emergency and 11 was for information.
The base statioms complained about bleed over onto 9 and 11 so we moved to 19. Guess what? All the bases moved to 19 to gab on....
