Choice and placement of instruments and MFD in the cockpit

I see quite a bit of variation in how electronics are placed in the cockpit.

Older installations typically have three separate small instruments for wind, depth, and speed. Some add a GPS or small plotter.

There are newer, multifunction instruments out there that combine some of these functions while still keeping power draw low. Chartplotters can now generally show all this data, along with charts, radar, and other things, but draw more power.

What do you believe is the best combination of instruments and/or plotter(s) in the cockpit, with today's technology?
