Cool Mini Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad.

I just purchased this, primarily to control the entertainment system on board.
It would also be ideal for navigation computer.
It's not waterproof, but looks well made and is cheap enough that an accident would not cause too much grief.

It will apparently work with nearly all operating systems including Linux and android.
It has a mini USB dongle receiver and plugging this in to the XP laptop it worked straight away, no drivers to download.

It is backlit and has a built in lithium battery.

It's an Rii tek model RT-MWK01+

Looks good. How is the range?

I have the bluetooth model which had a range of about 6 feet with the dongle that came with the unit. Once the bluetooth dongle was replaced the range is much better.

Re: Cool Mini Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad.

I had one once and could never get use to the lack of a right shift key.

YMMV.

The range is listed as "up to 15m". I tried it on the transom ( about 10m from the PC ) and it still worked..

Yes. It's also a very small keyboard. You would not use it to enter large amounts of text.
An email would be probably be as much as you would want to use it for, but for entering waypoints, computer passwords etc its ideal.

Re: Cool Mini Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad.

Of-course I know devices like these serve a purpose and I don't want to ruin the joy of a new gadget, but just so that readers find out the options, here are the ones I currently use:

In general, I have this keyboard and touchpad. However, it is an app that I downloaded onto my tablet. This is an iPad but I think it will work with any type and also smart-phones.

1. MobileMouse (was AirMouse). Exactly like the OP device except you don't need a dongle but use a driver on the computer instead.

2. Splashtop2 goes way beyond this and provides a remote desktop, i.e. you get the keyboard, touchpad and the display itself so you can work out of view of the computer screen.

Best of these options is that they are cheap or even free and the range is only limited to your wifi router so you can make it the whole anchorage which can be useful with Splashtop.

ciao!
Nick.
